Reading and writing is not just dots on pages. It is being able to communicate in the appropriate way with those who need to work with you. In the same way that you give different diagrams or documents between different subjects – say English and Maths – the way that you communicate with other musicians is dependant on what you need to communicate. It could be a lead sheet, a chord chart, a complete orchestal score, a sheet of papers with the chords above them or tablature – they are all valid ways to communicate and one size does not fit all. Learn what is the most effecive medium to use in your particular situation and what you can do to improve your written communication with both yourself and with others.
